1. A subtropical low located near the international dateline or about 390 miles south southwest of Midway atoll is moving toward the southwest at about 10 mph. An area of showers and thunderstorms remains near the center of this system. Winds of gale force are located far north of the center of this low. There is a low chance, 10 percent, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. For additional information on this low, see the high seas forecast issued for the north Pacific ocean by the National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu, Hawaii under AWIPS header hsfnp, or WMO header fzpn40 PHFO.

Elsewhere, no tropical cyclones are expected through late Sunday night.

1. A gale low located just west of the international dateline about 525 miles south southwest of Midway atoll, which is moving toward the south at less 10 mph, continues to exhibit tropical characteristics as it moves over warmer waters. This system is maintaining a persistent ring of thunderstorms surrounding its well defined center. Forecast models indicate this system will turn back toward the southeast or east today, which will likely bring it back into the Central Pacific Hurricane Center area of responsibility later today or tonight. There is a high chance, 90 percent, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. For additional information on this gale low, see the high seas forecast issued for the north Pacific ocean by the National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu, Hawaii under AWIPS header hsfnp, or WMO header fzpn40 PHFO.

Elsewhere, no tropical cyclones are expected through late Monday night.

201012190656f16xcomposi.jpg

La classification Dvorak :

Most Recent Positions Regardless of Basin:

DATE/TIME LAT LON CLASSIFICATION STORM

19/0830 UTC 21.4N 179.5E T4.0/4.0 98C -- West Pacific

19/0230 UTC 21.9N 179.1E T3.5/3.5 98C -- West Pacific

18/2030 UTC 22.6N 179.7E T3.0/3.0 98C -- West Pacific

18/1800 UTC 23.1N 180.0W ST2.5 98C -- Central Pacific

18/1130 UTC 23.5N 178.8W ST2.5 98C -- Central Pacific

For the central north Pacific, between 140°W and 180.

1. A gale low located just west of the international dateline about 610 miles south southwest of Midway atoll and 1480 miles west of Honolulu, which is moving toward the south at less than 10 mph, continues to exhibit tropical characteristics as it moves over warmer waters. This system is maintaining a persistent ring of thunderstorms surrounding its well defined center. Forecast models indicate this system will turn back toward the southeast or east today, which will likely bring it back into the Central Pacific Hurricane Center area of responsibility later today or tonight. There is a high chance, 90 percent, of this system being a tropical cyclone as it crosses back into the central north Pacific basin during the next 48 hours. For additional information on this gale low, see the high seas forecast issued for the north Pacific ocean by the National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu, Hawaii under AWIPS header hsfnp, or WMO header fzpn40 PHFO.

Elsewhere, no tropical cyclones are expected through Tuesday morning.

SHOWS A WELL DEVELOPED LOW LEVEL CIRCULATION CENTER (LLCC) WITH

CENTRAL CONVECTION ALOFT, HOWEVER FURTHER ANALYSIS INDICATES THE

SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE SUBTROPICAL. A RECENT AMSU CROSS-SECTION AND

200 MB ANALYSIS DEPICT A COLD-CORE CUT OFF LOW ALOFT WITH A COLD-

1000 MB. THE SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY ASSESSED AS SUBTROPICAL AND WILL BE

CLOSELY MONITORED FOR POSSIBLE TRANSITION INTO A TROPICAL SYSTEM.

BASED ON THE ABOVE ASSESSMENT THE POTENTIAL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A

SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS REMAINS POOR.
